As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Egrets...they've certainly had a few in Llanelli as rare birds make a stop at WWT centre

RARE birds including the elusive cattle egret have been spotted at a local wildlife centre.

Staff and visitors to the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre in Penclacwydd have also spotted little egrets and their much rarer relatives the great egret.

Autumn is a peak migration period and bird watchers have been treated to the sights of birds getting ready to leave for warmer climates, those stopping off to feed en route to their destination and others arriving to spend the winter at the popular wetland centre in Carmarthenshire.

Senior Reserve Warden, Dr Brian Briggs said: "Our site here in Llanelli seems to be an egret magnet! We currently have around 50 little egrets roosting on the Millennium Wetlands reserve every night, and occasionally they are joined by much rarer birds. One of our conservation students spotted a cattle egret last week which is only the second ever sighting of this type of bird in Carmarthenshire!"
