Meghalaya boasts off the largest area of threatened bird species in the world which calls for protection of these breeding sites, a bird expert today said.
Dr Anwaruddin Choudhury whose book 'Birds of Meghalaya' was released by Meghalaya Chief Secretary P B O Warjri stated that there are around 615 species of the birds found in the state.
With the state having the largest breeding area of threatened winged beings in the world. Hence, he stressed on the need of protection of these breeding sites by safeguarding environment through awareness programmes and creation of more wildlife sanctuaries and community reserves.
Releasing the book, Warjri lauded Dr Choudhury, an IAS officer from Assam, for penning the book.
He hoped that this book will inspire the people of Meghalaya about the true wroth of birds and its preservation and wildlife in general.
